"The Atlanta Society of Finance & Investment Professionals in conjunction with Governor Deal's Office" declares May 19th Putting Investors First Day in GA. This is a CFAI initiative to draw attention to the CFAI’s Investor Bill of Rights and to commemorate the importance of the investment professional community putting their client’s, the investors, first. We celebrate this important day with a special event with John Sours from the Governor’s Office of Consumer Protection and Tom Robinson who will update us on the CFAI’s Future of Finance Project.

Mr. Sours was appointed Administrator of the Georgia Governor’s Office of Consumer Protection in January, 2011. As Administrator, he is vested with the authority to monitor, investigate and assess penalties against businesses for unfair and deceptive consumer transactions.

Mr. Sours is a graduate of the College of William and Mary (A.B., Government and Economics), where he was a President’s Aide and Editor in-Chief of the student newspaper; and graduated with honors from its Marshall-Wythe School of Law where he was a member of the Law Review and a Lord Botetourt Scholar. He later received an L.L.M. from Georgetown University, and is a member of the Virginia and Georgia Bars.

He practiced law in the Atlanta area beginning in 1973, founding his own firm in 1979 with two colleagues; specialized in counseling, negotiation, litigation and alternative dispute resolution in the areas of construction, government contract, commercial real estate, and labor and employment law, serving as an advocate, arbitrator and mediator. He was selected for ten consecutive years as a “Georgia Superlawyer" by Atlanta Magazine; his biography appears in "Who's Who in America," "Who's Who in American Law" and "Who's Who in American Politics."

Mr. Sours has been an Adjunct Professor in dispute resolution and construction law in the School of Architecture, Civil Engineering Technology and Construction at Southern Polytechnic State University, and for twenty years was an Adjunct Professor in the Building Construction Department at the Georgia.

The Future of Finance initiative is a long-term global effort to shape a trustworthy, forward-thinking financial industry that better serves society. Guided by an advisory council of global thought leaders and incorporating input from society leaders, members, and others, the initiative provides tools, research, and resources for motivating and empowering the world of finance at the local, regional, and global level to promote fairness, improved understanding, and personal integrity.

In partnership with CFA Societies we can amplify our mission to uphold the highest standards of ethics, education, and excellence. The Future of Finance initiative is a platform by which we can engage members and local communities in our shared commitment to restore trust and confidence in the financial services industry.  Click her for further details.
